My name is Joan and I’ve been a celebrant with Independent Humanist Ceremonies since 2013. It’s been an incredible journey and one that has taken me all over Scotland, meeting couples very much in love, working alongside creative and talented suppliers and experiencing venues from small, intimate garden weddings to grand occasions in castles.
I’m lucky to have the opportunity to live out my dream every day. When I initially started I was working in the NHS in a Mental Health team, combining both roles and now I work solely as a Humanist Celebrant. I conduct Wedding Ceremonies, Naming Ceremonies and Vow Renewals. I often have the joy of being asked by couples I’ve previously married to conduct a Naming Ceremony for them, or a ceremony for members of the family.
I am a people person and I thrive on getting to know individuals, couples and families. I enjoy hearing couples’ love stories and their ideas and wishes for their ceremony. I have a positive attitude and know there’s a way to make their wishes come true. Creating a wedding ceremony is a collaborative and evolving process and it’s exciting to be involved from the initial meeting to the big day itself.
I have two grown up children of whom I’m very proud and I love my time with them. I’m originally from Glasgow and now live in Falkirk with my husband. I moved here three days before lockdown and got married in 2021. I’m settling into life here, planning to join a dance studio for fitness and to discover my hidden Beyoncé.
I wish you happy wedding planning and the happiest of wedding days. Enjoy every moment!
