Our Celebrants

Booking a Celebrant

Below are just a few of our dedicated Celebrants available to conduct ceremonies throughout Scotland. Although we predominantly conduct Weddings, Funerals and Baby naming ceremonies, our experienced team are available for other forms of ceremony on request.

Each of our Celebrants dedicates their entire day to their client. When receiving a request a Celebrant is usually allocated according to availability and geographic location. If you have a preference, then we will endeavor to get your preferred Celebrant if they are available. The beauty with Humanist weddings is that you don’t need to follow any rules. I love finding out who my couples are - whether they want a ceremony that is casual and stripped back, or absolutely hilarious, quirky and full of mad stories! You can create a ceremony that completely embodies who you are as a couple, without the need for outdated traditions. Does your Quaich contain tequila? Do you want to write parts of the ceremony in secret from each other? Would you rather stick on your hiking boots, head into the woods and bring your dog? Go for it!

Celebrate who you are, and I guarantee that you will have the most amazing time as you step into married life. All of your guests will come away knowing EXACTLY why you two have chosen to commit the rest of your lives to each other!

Over the last few years, I have watched my wife, Beverley, take so much pleasure in conducting wedding ceremonies. Our boys are now grown up and when the chance came to join her and the team at IHC, I was absolutely delighted. Now I get the chance to travel the country meeting great couples and producing tailor-made ceremonies for them. And the chance to wear one of my kilts is always a bonus! Calm and well-organised, I’m used to public speaking and I love a good story to tell. Give me a call, or drop me an email, and we can discuss your ceremony, your way.

There is a Scottish proverb which says, 'A story is told eye to eye, mind to mind and heart to heart.' I can't think of a better job than to help couples to share the story that brought them together and to be with them to mark the moment they marry with a ceremony that fits them perfectly. I am delighted to perform weddings large and small, from hotels to woodland setting. I'm also very happy to provide a Celtic ceremony for all those who dream of a romantic Scottish wedding. I look forward to meeting you.

Like every other couple you would wish your Wedding Ceremony to be very personal and unique for you.  The ‘art’ in being a Humanist Celebrant is to gather your information and present it in such a fashion that you are delighted with the outcome.  Every Ceremony is different but they are all performed to suit you and your wishes.

I have been fortunate enough to have vast experience of dealing with the public over many decades and this I trust is evident in my dealings with couples throughout the process and on their particular ‘special’ day.

SPECIALIST SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR WINNER 2019

Fiona Bryant

Location:
Dumfries
Available for:
Baby Naming, Funerals and Memorials, Weddings

Hi there, I’m Fiona, and I’m based in the beautiful region of Dumfries and Galloway. I
consider it a great privilege to be part of a couple’s journey towards their wedding day.
Choosing a Humanist ceremony means that together we can create the perfect day for you;
one that is personally meaningful and reflects your personalities, beliefs and values.
My background in music and performance means I love to tell a good story! It’s always
wonderful to hear couples talking about how they met, perhaps with some particular
romantic moments and funny memories they’ve had along the way, and then to weave
those strands together into a beautiful ceremony that will be remembered forever.
I also believe it is hugely important to tell with compassion and respect the story of a loved
one who has passed away. As an experienced counsellor, I will listen empathically to a
family at this most difficult time, and work closely with them to provide a personal and
fitting tribute to their loved one.

Joan Henderson

Location:
Falkirk
Available for:
Baby Naming, Weddings

My name is Joan and I’ve been a celebrant with Independent Humanist Ceremonies since 2013. It’s been an incredible journey and one that has taken me all over Scotland, meeting couples very much in love, working alongside creative and talented suppliers and experiencing venues from small, intimate garden weddings to grand occasions in castles.

I’m lucky to have the opportunity to live out my dream every day. When I initially started I was working in the NHS in a Mental Health team, combining both roles and now I work solely as a Humanist Celebrant. I conduct Wedding Ceremonies, Naming Ceremonies and Vow Renewals. I often have the joy of being asked by couples I’ve previously married to conduct a Naming Ceremony for them,  or a ceremony for members of the family.

I am a people person and I thrive on getting to know individuals, couples and families. I enjoy hearing couples’ love stories and their ideas and wishes for their ceremony. I have a positive attitude and know there’s a way to make their wishes come true. Creating a wedding ceremony is a collaborative and evolving process and it’s exciting to be involved from the initial meeting to the big day itself.

I have two grown up children of whom I’m very proud and I love my time with them. I’m originally from Glasgow and now live in Falkirk with my husband. I moved here three days before lockdown and got married in 2021. I’m settling into life here, planning to join a dance studio for fitness and to discover my hidden Beyoncé.

I wish you happy wedding planning and the happiest of wedding days. Enjoy every moment!

In the words of Wet Wet Wet- "Love is all around you" and that's exactly how it should be on your wedding day - in my role as your Celebrant, from our first meeting I want to ensure that YOUR special day is exactly how you want it.

I would be honoured to facilitate your loved one’s final journey, with a tailored ceremony for their funeral that tells those in attendance about their life and personality.

Baby-naming’s - what a lovely occasion to be involved in, as a father of a toddler, I appreciate the importance, to every parent, of their child and will make this ceremony as amazing as you would want for you and your baby!

I have had a variety of adventures in my life including public service, chefing, sport and latterly 12 years in sales, meaning that public speaking and presenting to audiences is second nature to me.
